Working in short film is kind of a mixed bag. I’ve worked with some directors/production teams that rock at what they do, and others that more taught me what to look out for.

Flesh Dresser, directed by Michael Vinje

The films included in this reel were all good experiences! There were, however, a couple projects that did not make it to completion simply because I didn’t work well with the creators involved.

I was honestly surprised by how much different working these shorts was compared to the work I’ve done as an extra. A lot of it was probably just the difference of working with independent artists rather than big production companies.

Nocturnal, directed by Jake Lundgren & Nick Grill

That’s what I loved most about working in shorts though. There’s so many creative minds out there crafting such interesting stories, and having the opportunity to be part of making those stories come to life is such a special thing.

High Times, directed by Khalid Silvers

The biggest hangup I have about throwing myself back into acting is trying to find roles that gel with the me I’ve grown to be. I gotta find projects that fit Chaos Gremlin Pip, not the Pip that wedged themself into the mold of “generic white girl #6” to be cast-able.

Wesley’s Darn Guitar, directed by Victoria Bruce.

*Let me wedge an update in here from 2024: I had forgotten about my Twin Cities Casting profile until a director reached out, specifically requesting I audition for their project because I had listed on my profile that I am gender-nonconforming. This is how I ended up cast in the following short. It was so much fun to be in a queer-led production, and I hope to find more opportunities like this.

Forlorn, directed by Asher Albera

If you really want some Vintage Pippers Content, see if you can spot Literal Child Pip as an extra in the train depot scene of Sweet Land, or running around the park scenes in Arnold’s Park. (I think I was 10 and 12 respectively when these were filmed. Tweet me screen caps so we can enjoy the cringe together.)
